Salvatore C. Porpiglia
Salvatore C. "Curly" Porpiglia, 86, of Silver
Creek died Wednesday (Sept. 14, 2011) at Brooks
Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. He was born June 22,
1925 in Silver Creek, the son of the late Frank and
Josephine (Ortolano) Porpiglia.
A lifelong Silver Creek resident, Mr. Porpiglia
was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from
1944 to 1946. He was employed by George Ortolano
Inc., where he worked as a heavy equipment operator
for more than 30 years until his retirement.
Salvatore was a member of the Samuel Cimino
VFW Post 6472 and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church,
both inSilver Creek. He enjoyed camping,
woodworking and small engine repairs, and most of
all, he was a devoted father, grandfather and great
grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Helen (Miller)
Porpiglia, whom he married April 10, 1948; three
sons, Thomas A. Porpiglia of Webster, NY, Samuel C.
Porpiglia of Silver Creek and Michael J. (Judy)
Porpiglia of Sinclairville, NY; two daughters, Sandy A.
(Tim Bailey) Porpiglia of Newark, NY and Cathy Jo
(John) Pitts of Jamestown; a sister, Josephine Matney
of Silver Creek; seven grandchildren, Dave (Lori)
Polisoto, Todd (Jamie) Polisoto, Beth Ann (David)
Nencetti, Abbey (Rob) Nedvesky, Jennifer (Rob)
Johnson, Adam Nedvesky, and Morgan Moran; and
seven great grandchildren, Marya, Vikki, Claudia,
Olivia, Elise, Sophia and Anna.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death
by a brother, Anthony Porpiglia; and a sister, Jeanette
Veklotz.
Prayers will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 at
9:30 a.m. from the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel in
Silver Creek, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at
10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Silver
Creek. Interment will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery,
Silver Creek. The family will be present at the funeral
chapel from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2011.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the
Silver Creek Emergency Squad or a charity of your
choice.
