Tom M. Griewisch
Tom M. Griewisch, 66, of Hanford Bay, Silver Creek, NY,
died Tuesday (Dec. 27, 2011) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in
Dunkirk after a short illness. He was born June 30, 1945 in
Silver Creek, the son of Milton "Lefty" Griewisch of Silver Creek
and the late Dorothy (Wiscott) Griewisch.
A lifelong resident of Silver Creek, Tom had worked as a
Rehab Assistant II at the Gowanda Psychiatric Center for 37
years. He also had been employed by the Standardbred Horse
Sales Company for 24 years.
Tom enjoyed playing softball, golf, snowmobiling, bowling,
pool, singing karaoke, and traveling on cruises with his wife
and friends. He also went on many hunting and fishing trips
with his buddies. A member of Huntley Hose Co. No. 1 of the
Silver Creek Fire Department, he was the recipient of the Frank
Gerace Award for his efforts. He also belonged to the Silver
Creek Volunteer Firemen's Association, Silver Creek VFW,
Gowanda Moose Club, NRA, Sunset Drifters, Dayton Farmers
Sportsman's Preserve, Slovenian Club and was a life-long
member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Silver Creek.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Janis (Ratzel)
Griewisch; father of Erick, Lisa and Sheryl; grandfather of
Ericka, Dakota and Andrew; great grandfather of Layla; also
survived by nieces Lindsey and Janelle, other family and loving
friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011 at
11 a.m. from the Trinity Lutheran Church on Porter Avenue in
Silver Creek. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery. The
family will be present at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, Silver
Creek from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Friends are invited.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Silver Creek Fire
Department or a charity of one's choice.
