
Clayton R. "Nibs" Nephew, age 74, of Buffalo, NY died
Tuesday (Nov. 29, 2011) at Millard Fillmore Gates Circle
Hospital in Buffalo. Nibs was born on June 5, 1937 in
Gowanda, NY, the son of the late Terry Sr. and Rebecca
(Jemison) Nephew.
He graduated from Dunkirk Industrial High School and
ECC with a degree in mechanical drafting. He was a
certified NYS Engineering Technician. Nibs worked for
Bendix Field Engineering Corp., NASA STADAN Station in
Santiago, Chile.
He was the first education director for the Seneca
Nation of Indians. He also was an engineer, draftsman and
electrician for various companies and government agencies
throughout his life and eventually retired from NYSEG.
Nibs enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, graduated from USAF
Electronic School, and played semi-pro baseball and
basketball while in the Air Force.
An avid sports fan, he loved to golf, play the Native
American game of snowsnake, travel and dance. He was a
member of the Seneca Nation of Indians, Wolf Clan, from
the Cattaraugus Territory.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Ines Nephew;
four daughters, Jacqueline, Vicki and Suzanne Nephew, all
of Irving, NY; and Jeanette Nephew of Villa Alemena, Chile;
a brother, Dale (Sarah) Nephew of Seattle, Wash.; five
grandchildren, Allen Silvernail, Melissa (Betz) Shaw, Lance
Nephew, Kevin Martinez and Steffe Martinez; two great
grandchildren, Molly and Lilly Shaw; and several nieces and
nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by
three brothers, Mervyn, Elwyn "Chip" and Terry Nephew Jr.
Friends may call at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel,
160 Central Ave., Silver Creek Friday, Dec. 2, 2011 from
3-7 p.m. and Saturday. Dec. 3, 2011 from 3 p.m. until the
time of services at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial
contributions in Nibs' memory may be sent to the American
Legion Iroquois Post 1587, 12897 Rt. 438, Irving, NY 14081.
